ホテルマンだけが知っている、甲子園優勝校の裏側

この夏、私がお手伝いしていた大阪・住之江区のホテルには
甲子園優勝校の 沖縄尚学高校野球部 の選手たちが宿泊していました。

甲子園と言えば華やかな舞台。
しかし、ホテルで見る彼らはまだ普通の高校生です。

大きな声で挨拶をし、きちんと整列し、静かに食事をする。

そして早朝から黙々と準備をして球場へ向かう。

当たり前のことを当たり前以上に徹底する。

実は、ホテルで働く者には「強いチームかどうか」は何となく分かります。

共通しているのは派手さではなく、規律と空気の整い方です。

そして今回のワールド・ベースボール・クラシック。

侍ジャパンは準々決勝で敗退。

試合後、井端弘和監督は選手を責めることなく、相手の強さを認めました。

組織のトップが結果を受け止め、次の成長へ視線を向ける。

その姿勢は、スポーツもビジネスも同じだと感じます。

最後の打席に立った大谷翔平選手。

勝っても負けても、世界最高峰の舞台で挑戦を続ける姿。

あの夏、ホテルで見た高校球児たちの背中とどこか重なって見えました。

勝ち続けることは難しい。
しかし挑戦を続ける組織だけが次の景色を見ることができる。

そんなことを考えた夜でした。

There was this year's World Baseball Classic.
Samurai Japan was defeated in the quarterfinals.
After the game, manager Hirokazu Ibata did not blame the players, but acknowledged the strength of the opponent.
The leader of an organization accepts the result and looks towards future growth.
I feel that this attitude is the same in both sports and business.
Shohei Ohtani stood at the plate for the last time.
Winning or losing, he continues to challenge himself on the world's highest stage.
Somehow, his back reminded me of the high school baseball players I saw at the hotel that summer.
Winning continuously is difficult. But only organizations that continue to challenge themselves can see the next view.
